  History of Unification Church Development in Terms of the Annual Motto

The history of the Unification Church can be largely divided into the periods before 1960 and after; the former consists mainly of unofficial events and is a transitional history, a preparatory period to set out towards a certain goal. The latter may be considering the beginning of the practical history of the dispensation to attain that goal.

Starting with April 11, 1960, when the Holy Wedding of the True Parents took place, Reverend Moon began to directly supervise and officiate at events. It was during this year that Parent's Day and Children's Day were established.

This year, the first seven-year course of the three seven-year courses (21-year course), the start of the official course of the Unification Church and its members, began.

In terms of the Principle, this was the year in which the Unification Church reached the position of Adam and Eve before the fall, that is the completion stage of the growth period. In order to reach the sphere of perfection in which God can have direct dominion over one's heart and life, a certain time period is required; this is the seven-year course.

From this year, Reverend Moon would announce an annual motto at the beginning of the year that would become a guideline for the year.
