Mrs. Eui Hong Kim (Kang), wife of the first UTS president, Dr. David S. C. Kim, with whom she is one of the 36 Blessed Couples, is in critical health condition and is not expected to be with us much longer. She is surrounded by the love of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she prepares for the next step in her eternal life journey. Mrs. Kim is in hospital in Castro Valley.

Dr. Kim and the family appreciate the prayers of all those who know and love Mrs. Kim.

From notes sent to me by Dr. Tyler Hendricks

I spent time with Dr. David S C Kim today and talked with his son, Michael Sang Soo Kim, who is in CA with his mom and siblings there. Mrs. Kim is presently in intensive care in Eden Hospital, Castro Valley, CA, with her four children and their families attending her there. Dr. Kim is at home in Poughkeepsie and in touch with Michael on a daily basis.

Mrs. Kim fractured her hip about a week ago, having gone there on April 13 to visit her children. She has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and has been in a good deal of pain for some time. The hip replacement surgery was successful, but after a day in a rehabilitation center she was sent back to the hospital with symptoms of pneumonia and other serious internal ailments. She is under such a degree of medication for pain that she is not capable of normal communication. Nonetheless, she and her husband have been able to communicate over the phone, conveying their mutual affection and compassion. The doctors believe there is no chance for survival and that she is at the end of life.

The desire of Dr. Kim and the family, and Mrs. Kim's will, is to have a small local Seunghwa ceremony in California. Dr. Chang Shik Yang has been in touch with the family and has encouraged a larger Seunghwa back in New York under the auspices of HSA and UTS. The family has graciously declined this honor. It is Dr. Kim's wish also not to travel to California, as the combined physical and emotional exhaustion could be too much for him. He wants to hold a service here at the same time or just prior to hers in California, at his home or at UTS.

At this time, he and the family ask for the prayers of those who know and love Mrs. Kim and Dr. Kim.
