78. The Gates Are Open

by Rebecca Salonen and Sandra Lowen

G         C      D G
In the twilight, lost and weary once we walked,
Em             D
Where promised flowers never bloomed;
G            C       D G
Where hearts, found empty, closed their heavy doors;
Em        Am     D G
But ever was the nameless search resumed.
G         C        G
For wide before us open stand the gates.
D7         Am7    D     G
Now he has come to wield the priceless key.
G         C       D G
Around his feet all earth bears fruit of joy
Em        Am     D G
And in his love the day sets all men free!
On the shores of day we leave behind the night,
Abandoned leave there long forgotten dreams;
No more we thirst upon the desert plain,
Nor seek to drink dark waters of the stream.
For wide before us open stand the gates.
Now he has come to wield the priceless key.
Around his feet all earth bears fruit of joy
And in his love the day sets all men free!
