The Words of the Lee Family

Prayer at Hoon Dok Hae for 9/11

September 10, 2002

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As it is just one day before the first anniversary of the tragic day of 9/11 let me share with you a bit of my heart.

We will never forget the day September 11, 2001. Nor will we forget where we were when we first heard the tragic news. All across America a deep sense of national reflection and contemplation commenced in the days following 9/11. Pastors everywhere reported a noticeable increase in church attendance. Bookstores were experiencing a sudden boost in the amount of Bibles sold. Americans everywhere, almost instinctively, were searching for answers beyond the limits of mere political discourse.

We must not let that spirit wane, for in the manner of deep soul-searching, American can reconnect to the true seeds of her greatness. Like Israel, America has a unique covenant with God. Adherence to those ideals and founding spirit is the only true hope for the future of America and the world.

Renewing the founding spirit of America has been the unwavering hope and effort of our True Parents. Even from within the walls of Danbury prison, Father loved and supported America. However, Father has also courageously warned America of the consequences of losing God. Consider these prophetic words spoken many years ago:

I shed tears standing on Fifth Avenue in New York City. New York is proud of having the Empire State Building and World Trade Center, but what are they going to do now? Accidents will happen when God leaves those places. God blessed this country for a reason. America was to do everything, even the construction of buildings, in the name of God, but America is going in the opposite direction and becoming spoiled.

If you look around the streets during rush hour, you see young people gathering, becoming corrupted. Did God bless this country so that this would happen? There should be young people standing up to start a new movement for purity, determined to save the world, but there are none. Blessing and Ideal Family, Chapter one, Part four.

Brothers and Sisters, during this painful time of remembrance let us stand united with our True Parents and pray for this great nation to fulfill its global responsibility. I hope each of you along with your families can join together in deep prayer at Hoon Dok Hae tomorrow. As you may know True Parents are asking our worldwide movement to unite in reading the book titled "The Way of Unification in God's Providence". This is the green book from the four part 80th birthday set.

Out of tragedy, a good fruit can emerge that will vindicate and liberate those innocent heroes who gave their life. Our job is to awaken the nation. Let's help America come back to God! We can start by bringing our friends and contacts on Monday, September 16th to meet True Mother and hear her speak on "The Origin of Peace is God."

I look forward to seeing you at the Sheraton National.

God Bless you all.
