The Words of the Jessen Family

Double A Husks

Greetings from the husker state...Nebraska!

This Sunday, Amerika and Amadea's teams visited the bubbling church in Omaha. As with most churches, we were warmly greeted by the family members Saturday night eagerly awaiting the meeting of our new family. It takes but a second to get over our shyness and enter into comfortable conversation, swapping our names and fundraising stories. The next morning we prepared ourselves with morning Hoon Dok Hae and externally with a beautifully prepared breakfast, to really have the right kind of heart during our time here: a heart to give.

To start off there was a 2nd Generation Sunday school that we attended and learned more in depth the purpose of our movement from God's perspective. Soon, following this the main service began and right away the STFers were invited up to give their testimonies on their experiences on transforming a mindset of duty to one of own desire as they more and more came to be closer to God through their overcoming challenges.

Mr. Christenson gave the Sunday Service, really inspiring us all with his exotic sermon..."If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?" In other words there are some things in life that you cannot prove to another person, you just have to live it. He mentioned a very inspiring quote to us, "You can't just keep looking for the answers but you have to be the answer."

Later on that day, after service ended, we attended a Christian minister revival group. We could really see how much we need to learn and inherit the passionate spirit of the Christian ministers. Even though this was a pretty normal day, schedule wise, and nothing hectic, unexpected or exciting happened to the schedule, we felt a lot of inspiration from members.

What we could really feel from each person is that what we are doing is really making a difference. Sometimes when we are on frontline, it's hard to see how we affect people or are saving the world. But when we were with these families, we heard many testimonies from the 2nd gen who were on the fence about college or STF or some even deciding on college, but through us, could realize the value of having a relationship with God and True Parents and change their minds about STF. We were so moved by the hearts of these people that what we are doing is not being wasted, even though on frontline it's hard to see. And also to show these families that their sacrifices were not being wasted either.

That we are coming closer and having tearful experiences with God and True Parents because of their sacrifices. That night, at the revival with the ministers, it was really a good experience for all of us. They asked us to sing our song for them and their hearts were moved. They said it was not only our voices or our words, but the bright strong spirit was coming from us. We could give them a lot of hope because we could show them that there are young people striving to love God, as they have. So all in all, it was a very beautiful experience where we could see our impact and how much we can help God and True Parents after our couple of years on STF.
