Our prayers and best wishes go out to Eugene and his family. Please consider ways you can help them. Contact pastor Hiroshi and Kathleen Goto for more information.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our dear brother, Eugene Kennedy (he lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife Olga and their children) is being treated at the famous Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for liver cancer. There is a possibility that he may be a good candidate for a liver transplant. The ideal situation would be that family member or friend of the family is found to be a good match and is able to be a "living donor."

As explained on the Mayo web site, "With living donor liver transplantation, the healthy donor's liver regenerates to full size within a few weeks of operation, and there is no long-term impairment of liver function. The transplanted liver portion also regenerates, increasing in size to an appropriate match for the recipient." Donors must be between the ages of 18-55.

For more detailed information about this program, you can go to: www.mayoclinic.org/liver-transplant/livingdonorlivertransplant.html

Anyone who would like to consider being a donor would first call Living Donor Coordinators Lisa Bakkon or Barb Giles for preliminary, confidential screening. The next step would be a simple blood test for compatibility. (Eugene could receive a donation from a person with type A or O blood.) Any expenses involved for the donor would be covered by Eugene's insurance.

Thanks.
