The Words of the Huish Family

A Nobel effort

Here's a question I'm gonna throw out to see what people think: Is the Nobel Peace Prize losing credibility?

Don't get me wrong, I think Liu Xiaobo is a sincere bloke who's sticking his neck out for what he thinks will improve his nation. But has he actually contributed to world peace? In a similar vein, did Barrack Obama contribute to world peace? Did Al Gore contribute to world peace? Did Yasser Arafat contribute to world peace?

I like the story of Le Doc Tho who, in 1973, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but declined to receive it. His reason: there was still no peace in his country, Vietnam.

What meaning does the Peace Prize have when the people awarded have not actually brought peace? Further to that, does Sun Myung Moon deserve to receive it? Do you think he would also refuse to receive it?

According to Mr. Alfred Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded to the person who

"…shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Considering the cross-cultural marriage blessings, creating fraternity between nations in a very real sense, and the plethora of peace meetings inspired by True Father, I think he's in with a shot.
