The Words of David S. C. Kim

David S.C. Kim: an appreciation re: Wales first Unification Church mission country

My name is Christopher Davies, as far as I know I am the first Welshman to join the Unification Church, along with two other Brits in the spring of 1968 -- which was to flower in the so called Summer of Love. My prayer is that the hope of that year may be fulfilled in this time, 43 years on. I am known to a number of Unificationists in the US as the writer of the song ''The Perfect Child''. I also have the distinction of Alistair Farrant being my spiritual grandson, and through him Kevin Pickard being my great grandson, but in truth they and others I have omitted to mentioned are my spiritual siblings, who have taught me more than I have taught them.

My reason for writing is the passing of the spiritual giant Dr. David S. C. Kim, who I believe to have been the first Korean to venture abroad armed with the most precious secret ever entrusted to a human: the knowledge that the Lord of the Second Advent -- in the words of his autobiography -- roams the earth, in Korea, the Land of Morning Calm. And the land to which David Kim came was my homeland, Wales.

I do not know why he chose David as his Western name, but David is the patron saint of Wales, the man who first brought the people of Wales to Jesus (he would actually have been called Dafydd -- pronounced Dafith).

I was blessed to meet David Kim when he visited to the UK again, sometime in the 70s, I was in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, when he passed by.

He originally came to Wales supported by the UN and he hoped to gain support for our True Father's work in Korea. I believe a Christian leader from Australia visited our movement in Korea as a result of David Kim's efforts, but unfortunately did not pursue it further.

David Kim told us how the great spiritual awakening in Korea was sparked originally by the great revival in Wales. See excerpt:

''The most dramatic revival occurred in Korea after Japan gained control during the Russo-Japanese War. Some even paralleled their revival with Wales. Once a persecuted church Christianity quadrupled and became the strongest single organization in Korea. The revival was called the spiritual birth of Korean Christianity.''

There is something of a Christian spiritual revival in Wales today, actually in my hometown Newport, in South Wales. I am now living in Amsterdam in The Netherlands, and wish to remain here, but feel an increasing spiritual push to visit my hometown, where I now have no physical family and few friends that I know of, but where dwell some wonderful Unificationist brothers and sisters, to do what I can. If I should make this journey, I will be immeasurably emboldened to know that I will surely be accompanied by Generalissimo David Kim, one of Heaven's noblest warriors, who will not slay the Welsh Dragon, but will enlist him in raising Arthur from his sleep to come to the rescue of his country, Europe and beyond!

If my prose seems rather purple, it is on account of the Welsh ''hwyl'' (religious fervor) that David Kim also carried.

The great British writer Rudyard Kipling wrote in 'The Ballad of East and West', first published in 1889 -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ballad_of_East_and_West,

Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!

Our True Father is one such ''strong man'' from the East, as was and is David Kim. We in the West, are surely called to be the corresponding ''strong men and women'' who call help them fulfill today's great Heavenly Commission. Aju.
