True and False about Sun Myung Moon

1. Reverend Moon's favorite song was "Millennium Rock," a Korean song about loyalty against all the odds.

True: This was the song he liked to hear sung most often during his latter years.

2. Reverend Moon always surprised people by how well he understood English. And while he was in prison he picked up conversational Swahili as well.

False: Reverend Moon spoke three languages: Korean, Japanese and English. He also studied Spanish while he was in Danbury Prison.

3. Reverend Moon's favorite book was the Bible. He diligently studied the Bible all throughout his lifetime.

True

4. I remember seeing two movies with Reverend Moon: Rocky and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He used to love martial arts movies.

True: He loved martial arts movies. It is also less well known that, up until the age of 30, he consciously avoided movies and even movie posters because he wanted to keep himself pure and avoid distractions.

5. Reverend Moon's favorite color was blue. At least that's the color mentioned most often in his sermons.

False: Although blue is mentioned more times in the Cheon Seong Gyeong than any other color, his favorite color was pink.

6. Reverend Moon's favorite drink was McCol, ice cold from the can. We made it, he drank it.

True: He also enjoyed a Coke every now and then.

7 You might be surprised to know that Reverend Moon never tried Indian food until he was 90 when it was introduced to him by one of his sons. He thought it was the food of the gods.

True: His youngest son, Reverend Hyung Jin Moon, introduced it to him.

8. Reverend Moon's favorite quote was: "Before you seek to rule the universe, rule yourself." I think it's from Sun Tzu.

True: Another version of that quote reads: "It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle."

9. The strangest thing I ever heard Reverend Moon say? I think it was when he said that Lucifer was Adam and Eve's brother or cousin. Mark Twain said something similar as well.

True: Mark Twain says something similar in his book The Diaries of Adam and Eve

10. Reverend Moon's favorite food was McDonald's: Big Mac, large fries, Coke.

False: Although Reverend Moon loved Western food and had a soft spot for McDonald's, his favorite food was rice and kimchee, the staple of Korean cuisine.

11. You know, I never really heard Reverend Moon complain. Ever. But he did often say that he wished he had more time to do the will of God.

True: He made a point never to complain.

12 He was really annoyed when people fell asleep when he was speaking. Of course he spoke for hours at a time, so it was probably inevitable.

True: Most everyone who experienced one of his talks can testify to this. But he was sympathetic to the challenges of his audience and never stayed mad for long.

13, Reverend Moon's favorite smell was the smell of a fresh-cut lily.

True.

14. What is Reverend Moon's favorite breakfast? I'd have to say it was the Colorado omelet. Those are enormous.

True: It can also be said that his favorite cereal was oatmeal.

15. Reverend Moon loved Korean dramas, especially "Winter Sonata," filmed at our own ski resort in Korea.

True: Korean dramas were his favorite type of TV show. Furthermore, his favorite fictional character was Shim Jung, the blind man's daughter and Choonhyang, the faithful wife.

16. The most interesting person Reverend Moon ever met? Me.

False: Although it was not declared outright, the most likely answer to this question is Jesus Christ.
