For
more than twenty years since 1955, the former headquarters church
of Chungpa-dong was used both as the headquarters of the church
in Korea and as the Headquarters Church. Later, due to increasing membership
and the scope of the church's work, a new building became necessary.
On May 1, 1976, Won Pil Kim, director of the church headquarters, together with the headquarters staff, held a ground-breaking ceremony for a new headquarters church. After fourteen months of construction work, the building's dedication ceremony was held on July 1, 1977.
This building belongs to the Headquarters Church but when major events or special occasions require, it is used as a gathering place for the general membership.
In the past, whenever Rev. Moon was in Korea he would speak there at six o'clock every Sunday morning unless another schedule prevented it. Members in and around Seoul would attend this service. Besides this, a number of other historic events have been held at the Headquarters Church, notable among which is the blessing in marriage of Rev. and Mrs. Moon's daughter, Ye-jin, with Mr. Jin-whi Hong, on May 16, 1981. The ceremony was officiated by the True Parents themselves.
Services held at the Headquarters Church include five o'clock Sunday morning pledge, early service at six o'clock Sunday morning, general Sunday service at 10:30, Sunday evening service and Wednesday evening service at eight o'clock.
