UTS WORLD TOUR From November 13-December 1 I conducted a global tour for UTS fundraising and recruitment. The purpose for the tour was first to meet leaders and make personal relationships with them. On that basis I wanted to discuss how many students could enroll at UTS from their area, and how much funding they could provide for those students. The second purpose was to meet members in general in order to convey the spirit of UTS and generate their good feeling toward UTS. The third purpose was to meet specific members who are interested in attending UTS.

I planned the tour two months in advance. I received cooperation in planning from the leaders of Europe (Rev. Song), the Northeast (Dr. Seuk), Korea, Japan and the Philippines (Dr. Kim). On the tour I was able to meet personally Rev. Song, Rev. Shin Jae Park (Dr. Seuk's Vice-Continental Director), President Kyung June Lee, Rev. Sun Jo Hwang, Mr. Kyoung Hyo Kim (World CARP Korea President), President Tae Haeng Yu, lower-level World CARP leaders in Japan, and lower-level leaders in the Philippines. I also had an airport meeting with the top leadership of Taiwan, centering on President Ker Sheung Lee. In the process I established warm relationships with UTS liaisons in Europe, Moscow, Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

I gave presentations to the European main leadership (20 leaders), Moscow HQ staff, the Moscow congregation (Sunday Service), a group of 40 prospective students from Moscow, the Sun Moon University undergraduate CARP (at their chapel service), the Sun Moon University School of Theology students (at their chapel service), UTS alumni in Korea (7) and Japan (10), the Kousei Church (Tokyo, CARP HQ church, Sunday Service), 10 prospective students in Japan, the student body and leadership of UTS Asia, 54 IRFWP leaders in Manila, fifty members in northern California church (church growth seminar), the Bay Area congregation (Sunday Service) and UTS alumni and prospects in the Bay Area (20). In every location I distributed materials and gifts (a UTS view book in English, Korean and Japanese, a "mini-catalog, UTS caps, pens and bookmarks, and some gifts for leaders). I accomplished the first purpose in Europe with Rev. Song and many of the leaders. In Moscow I developed a warm relationship with Rev. Park. In Korea I had dinner with President Lee and visited Rev. Hwang, and in Japan I had dinner with Rev. Yu. In the Philippines I spent quality time with Dr. Celso Talaba, Rev. Elias Soria, Dr. Joseph Navalte, Mr. Edgar Tanate and of course beloved Genie Kagawa. I developed warm relations with President Lee of Taiwan. I met World CARP leadership: the President of World CARP Korea, the continental consultants in Europe and the Philippines, and top leaders in Russia and Japan. Leaders are thinking seriously about sending and funding students.

ALUMNI GATHERING Alumni from the New York area, and as far away as Washington, DC, gathered for a dinner and world tour report at Tarrytown's Striped Bass Restaurant. It was a wonderful time organized by Alumni Relations Director Robin Graham, who is preparing a more complete report.

ALUMNUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS I snip from a recent report from Robert Beebe, IEF, Russia, on an event that took place in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, the "Capital City Forum of Student Presidents of Schools": "The entire event was an example of exemplary leadership on the part of an ordinary school which became inspired by the IEF vision and material. Even representatives of the so-called elite schools attended the program and had to humble themselves in front of the sincere investment made by School 36. The program also received excellent coverage on the TV evening news by the main government channel.

The day before this event we had a meeting with the director of the city department of education Asar Rakhimzhanova. At this meeting we discussed the following items: 1. having a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW) for all the city schools in the coming year to introduce the My World & I program; 2. department support for the publication of the My World & I textbooks in Kazakh language; 3. introducing a course in moral education for teachers at the Institute for Improving Teachers' Skills.

Finally, at a banquet held at School 36 with all its teachers and administrative staff present, Robert Beebe presented the school director, Vadim Motorin, with a certificate honoring his school as an IEF Model School. He received the certificate on behalf of the school with deep pride and joy, later showing it off to everyone present. He said it would occupy a prominent place in the school's entrance.

The activities in Astana can serve as a model for what can happen when just one school sincerely applies the My World & I curriculum, not just for its own sake, but as a school practices Father's teaching of "living for the sake of others". Even though the physical conditions at the school are not so great, the spirit there is very high. The teachers, staff and students are really like a family working together for a common higher purpose."

CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON AND MEDIA COVERAGE Today we celebrated a Christmas luncheon for faculty and staff. Dr. David S. C. Kim, President emeritus, attended. We celebrated a December 11 front-page article on the Seminary in the Poughkeepsie Journal. It's on the Poughkeepsie Journal website, if you are interested in this friendly coverage.

LLOYD ANDERSON I close with a request for your prayers for our brother and friend Lloyd Anderson, long-time UTS staff. Lloyd recently suffered one or more mild strokes. Though mild, mixed with a diabetic condition, they led to difficulty in speaking, walking and maintaining other physical functions. After Lloyd spent two days at the hospital, he was released, and our sisters and brothers at UTS served him Śround the clock for 10 days. His condition declined steadily, and Lloyd is presently back at Northern Dutchess Hospital (Rhinebeck, NY). Cliff Yasutake is working on placing him where he can have the care that he needs. He is not able to communicate verbally, but he mind is clear and so peaceful, and I am sure that he would appreciate very greatly any Christmas cards or letters. Please send them c/o Cliff Yasutake, 30 Seminary Drive, Barrytown, NY 12507.

DR. WININGS KNEE SURGERY: Please keep Dr. Kathy Winings in your prayers as well; she had knee surgery today.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: You may or may not be aware that Rev. Ki Yeal Lee is now our Regional Director here in upstate New York. Which is a lead-in to announcing the Christmas Concert directed by his wife, ___, that will take place on Christmas Day, in the afternoon, with a potluck dinner following, here at UTS. All are welcome.

BC ARTS FEST: UTS hosted a gathering of second-generation, for second-generation, by second-generation, focusing on the arts development going on among them. It is the second annual such conference, organized by Akina Toffey and friends; sound by George Kazakos and Diego Costa. I understand they are having follow-up events in Mobile and Pasadena. The music was real nice at their Saturday evening musical chairs concert, capped off by Mr. Sparkle. Check the BC World website and I'm sure you'll see some pictures.

I'm off to Israel tomorrow morning. Please have a wonderful year-end and meaningful new beginning with True God's Day.

With all best wishes from a Barrytown covered with snow.
