The Words of Hyo Jin Moon

Here are my notes from Hyo Jin Nim’s speech Sunday 04 June 2006. My writing speed and ability to convey what was actually said are limited. These at most convey some sense of what Hyo Jin Nim said and are not a verbatim record.

All welcome Hyo Jin Nim and everyone offers a half-bow.

This time I looked at Hyo Jin Nim when we bowed and I saw that he also does a half bow to the audience; also I noticed that he brought a small notebook and opened it on the podium. I was told that this is the 2nd week that he brought notes.

How are you doing?

I’m going to be away a few weeks. I’ll be going to China and Japan. I have something starting (MCS China) in China.

I’m leaving today. Please keep this in your prayers.

Today I’d like to talk about loyalty.

I often hear that people say that, "I’m only loyal to my self"

In the so-called enlightened world here this often.

Let’s get into the meaning of this boring stuff.

Why would someone want to be loyal to something?

Why do we need loyalty?

What is loyalty?

Loyalty is a concept that triggers certain things like piety or forgiveness..

It makes us bigger than ourselves.

So what is the opposite of loyalty? Selfishness.

Loyalty is a right of passage that guarantees something not within my-self.

There is a Korean saying "that underneath the lap is the darkest place" that is you don’t see clearly the thing that is closest to you.

So we don’t care to pay attention to the idiotically simple things that are fundamental truths.

Loyalty is a sense of objectivity; a proclamation of receiving a subject into my life.

"I am willing to connect to something greater in my life."

Even God based everything on love and loyalty.

The almighty, omnipresent, omniscient Creator based everything on something as simple as loyalty.

So no matter what you have to deal with this.

Why would anyone want to suffer?

To understand life and love, you have to understand the up and down of wave motion. Anything that is real exists in waveform. It undulates.

That is the way in which all selfishness will eventually neutralize it self. (by waves canceling each other out)

So how can you be selfish and arrogant when you realize that we all go through these cycles?

The greatest addition is to power and money. It is nasty, worse than addiction to drugs.

When you get stuck in that life style you always want more and more and more. If you have a million, you want ten million; if you have ten million, then 100 million, a billion.

Power is the same thing.

If power and money are the meaning of your life, then what about love?

How long can you drink wine and whisky? You should drink water too.

People might believe that they have control over their addictions, but in the end they are only loyal to them selves and their problems, their selfishness and indulgences.

I’ve been accused of being addicted to many things, but power and wealth will kill you.

It doesn’t have life sustaining power.

Who cares about learning new things when you are headed down the path of destruction?

You have to find something greater (than your self).

I’m trying to get back into the groove of preaching; please bear with me.

Some times I step back and say, "what the heck to I need all this stuff for?"

What is important to me is that I need a sense of love and loyalty.

I need to belong to something. I don’t want to be alone.

I don’t want to wake up one day and have nothing (and no one). That is not good.

You expect even your dog to be loyal to you. You have to be loyal to your dog too.

The worst thing is to have nothing, no one.

No one is that strong to live completely alone. Anyone will crack.

The light makes reflections and shadows.

You have to make a choice on the day that you learn what your responsibility is.

It is a struggle.

Even if you understand about loyalty and your purpose, it is still a struggle to accomplish it.

How can you be a happy camper when you see all the stuff in the world?

Then all this talk about God’s love seems just like bla, bla, bla.

God wants everyone in their deepest, darkest, moments of despair to find the truth of the light of true love.

You have to pay your dues.

I know you all want to find your perfection, your love. Good luck!

You have to be loyal to that which Father teaches.

That’s why we all belong.

But then we’re all crazy right?

See you in a couple weeks.

OK?

Bye.
