The Montevideo Declaration of the World University Federation

21 February 1996

The World University Federation is established as an association of colleges and universities dedicated to the education of students capable of leadership in their fields and exemplary citizenship in the global community of the 21st century.

The World University Federation is a network of institutions of higher learning from all nations of the world at several levels of participation, to serve as an international academic infrastructure for global society. Each participating institution will both represent the best cultural and intellectual traditions of its society and pursue the universal values essential to achieving world peace.

The World University Federation is organized to promote education centered on four basic themes:

Harmony- the development of individual character, rooted in the harmony of mind and body.

Purity-to lead to the creation of families founded on true love as a stable building block for a society.

Peace-based on the recognition of the fundamental value and equality of all individuals, men and women, races and cultures.

Unification -the cooperation of all people toward the realization of peace, justice and well being for the entire world.

We, the undersigned participants of the Montevideo conference on the World University Federation, February 21, 1996, dedicate ourselves to developing the methods and institutions necessary to expand the federation committed to these themes throughout the world.
