President Mwai Kibaki has commended the Global Peace Festival Foundation for promoting peace in the world.
Saying he welcomed the foundation's decision to choose Nairobi as the venue for the biennial global peace convention scheduled for 17 to 20 November this year, President Kibaki assured that the Government will provide all the necessary support to ensure the convention succeeds.
"My Government is pleased to partner with you in hosting this important conference aimed at spreading the message of peace to all humanity," the President said.
President Kibaki was speaking Tuesday at his Harambee House office during a meeting with the Global Peace Festival Foundation Chairman Dr. Hyun Jin Moon.
Noting that the convention will attract peace builders, youth and religious leaders, top political and civil society leaders from around the world, the President expressed confidence that the message of peace under the theme 'one family under God' will reverberate from Nairobi to the rest of the world.
The Head of State said he was also glad that the Global Peace Festival Foundation has been working with Kenyan religious groups, NGOs, business community and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in promoting youth empowerment as a tool for entrenching tolerance and peaceful co-existence regardless of faith, race or ethnicity.
Dr. Moon, who was accompanied by the foundation's international president Mr. Youngjun Kim, thanked President Kibaki for assuring his organization of support in its activities in the country especially the forthcoming convention.
Reiterating the Global Peace Festival Foundation's belief in uplifting human dignity, Dr. Moon said his organization endeavors to impart values and principles to the youth to enable them cope with life challenges through the foundation's character education program.
Speaking during the occasion, Dr. Manu Chandaria, a renowned business leader and philanthropist in Kenya who is also the Chairman of the Private Sector Advisory Council for the Global Peace Festival Foundation, said President Kibaki's leadership is an inspiration to the country's youth.
The Global Peace Festival Foundation and its Global Peace Service Alliance have sponsored youth character education, peace building in Rift Valley and sports for peace in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other partners including the UN Habitat.
The Kenya Chapter of the foundation has been involved in mobilization of communitywide cleanup efforts for Nairobi River which is ongoing.
Present were Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura and Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi and his Youth and Sports counterpart Mr. James Waweru among others.
