The Words of Hyun Jin Moon From 2013

Hyun Jin Moon's supporters attempt to create a scandal over changes to the Family Pledge

July 24, 2013

Hyun Jin Moon's supporters claim that True Mother and other church leaders have secretly changed the 7th verse of the Family Pledge in such a way as to undermine the "original blood lineage" and thus distort True Father's original meaning and to replace it with their own self-serving interpretation.

What's Wrong with the New Family Pledge?

Hyun Jin Moon's defenders say that the new Cheon Seong Gyeong and Peace Messages (Pyunghwa Hoongyeong -- Pyeonghwa Shingyeong) that were recently published by True Mother includes a changed verse 7 of the Family Pledge.

The old Family Pledge verse 7 said:

7. Our family, the owner of Cheon Il Guk, centering on true love, pledges living for the sake of others CONNECTED TO THE ORIGINAL BLOOD LINEAGE, TO COMPLETE A WORLD BASED ON THE CULTURE OF HEART.

The new Family Pledge verse 7 says:

7. Our family, the owner of Cheon Il Guk, centering on true love, pledges living for the sake of others TO COMPLETE A WORLD BASED ON THE CULTURE OF HEART WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE ORIGINAL BLOOD LINEAGE.

The order of the phrase "connected to the original blood lineage" has been changed.

What's Wrong with True Mother and Church Leaders?

Hyun Jin Moon's adherents also object to changes made in verses 2, 4, and 6 where "God" was changed to "Heavenly Parents" and in verse 8 where "Completed Testament Age" was changed to "Cheon Il Guk Age".

The adherents allege subterfuge because no official announcement of the change to verse 7 was made. They demand that True Mother, committee chairman Young Hwi Kim and other church leaders involved in the publication release an official explanation of why they altered the 7th verse of the Family Pledge.

The adherents assert that changing True Father's 2004 version of the Pledge is an act "defiling the heart that True Father poured into choosing every word of the Family Pledge." They believe that the 2004 version of the Family Pledge is established eternally and any change to it is a "crime before Heaven."

Hyun Jin Moon's backers claim that they forced True Mother to change the Family Pledge; they assert that former and current church presidents held a secret meeting about the alteration. The leaders conferred with True Mother and decided to change the 7th verse back to its 2004 wording.

A History of Changes to the Family Pledge

The Family Pledge was originally proclaimed in Seoul Korea, on May 1, 1994 and contained seven verses. An eighth verse was added in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on January 1, 1998. In 1999 verse seven was revised to add "through living for the sake of others". "As the Owner declare of Cheon Il Guk," was added to each paragraph in Seoul Korea on November 9, 2002. On February 4, 2004 Number 2 was revised to add "a family of" and number 8 was revised to add "and the realm of being completely free, in the..."

Are There Really Objections to Changes?

Hyun Jin Moon's supporters claim that the new version of the Cheon Seong Gyeong and Peace Messages are also corrupt, because they have been changed from previous versions. The advocates insist that no changes are valid if made after True Father's Seunghwa at 1:54 AM, 7.17 by the Heavenly Calendar in the 3rd year of Cheon-gi (September 3, 2012). They want all changes reversed, even those made for errors in spelling, layout or grammar. They say that "Those who damage God's will and his expressed words will be eventually buried and forgotten by providential history. If they fear Heaven, then the church leadership should use this occasion to repent and to restore all of True Father's words and scriptures to their original state."

Hyun Jin Moon's detractors claim that his supporters are not interested in the purity of scriptures; rather they are trying to disgrace True Mother in hopes of gathering disaffected members to create a "True Unification Church" with Hyun Jin Moon and his wife Jun Sook Kwak as new "True Parents."
