Dear Families,
Our theme for this year is "Back to Basics". Whenever I hear this it reminds me of a well known story about Vince Lombardi, legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers. Lombardi would gather his team together at the beginning of each season and once he had their undivided attention, he said: "This team needs to get back to basics!" Then he held up one of the practice balls and stated, "Gentlemen, this is a football."
If God (Heavenly Parents) is the ultimate coach and we are the team then maybe God would hold up the ideal family and say, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a True Family. And maybe God would point to the Divine Principle and say, "This is the textbook for understanding my heart and purpose..." And to the Bible and say, "This is my story, full of lessons for you to understand if you are wise and prayerful..."
I have inscribed in one of my journals words that True Father spoke at one gathering, "The more you pray and lecture, the bigger your church will become." To me this means that I need to pray for spiritual children, I need to seek to save people out of the fallen world and comfort God's heart. It was God who lost Adam and Eve and it is God who longs to welcome home the prodigal sons and daughters who wander in darkness.
I have a long way to go to become an effective teacher and witnesser but I can practice the basics. We have recently been given a wonderful gift in the form of Reverend Moon's autobiography. This allows us to share the story of the central figure of the age, the messiah, who comes to complete the work of Jesus and heal the suffering heart of God and all people. What a story it is!
One of our sisters was inspired by the sermon of Reverend Mike Yakawich from Montana where he spoke about planting seeds of faith by witnessing to people about God's truth and the messiah. She share these thoughts with me:
"Father Moon's book has really given me a good excuse to visit and witness to people about him. It makes it much easier. I think about your quote...that
"If you sow the seed, at some time in the future it will surely sprout,"
Resonates with me. A while back when we started getting this second edition of the book I had a dream of Father teaching me how to plant little seeds on the ground. Back then I didn't think much of the dream until I realized that giving out the book is like planting little seeds on the ground. And revisiting the people is like watering the little seeds. God bless our True Parents."
Aju, brothers and sisters.
See you on Sunday,
