The Words of the Elder Family

Timothy Elder explains this calligraphy: "Sincerity moves Heaven"

January 17, 2014

In Korea, ji-seong gam-cheon is a common saying that dictionaries translate as "Sincerity moves Heaven". When I search for the meaning in Japanese, I find pages where people are saying it's a misspelling of ____ (Sincerity will reach heaven). In fact, some Japanese seem to think it is unique to the Unification Church. That's not accurate.

I found one Korean page that traces its origin to an old Korean folk tale about two men, ___ and ___. The first is blind and the second cannot stand because of a physical disability. The story is that they help each other. Heaven is moved by their devotion to each other and heals them both.

The moral of the story is that when times are tough, people should exercise true friendship and the spirit of cooperation. If they do, they will move Heaven to give them its blessings.
