Kwak Group takes aim at U.S.

Many of the non-Unification Church member senior citizens bused in for the June 2 Kwak Group event in Seoul left during Hyun Jin Nim's speech.

Having fallen far short of their goals in Korea and Japan over the past two weeks, the Kwak Group seems now to be stepping up its outreach efforts to Unification Church members in the United States.

The group has sent emails to select persons inviting them to events planned for later this month. The advertised main speaker at some of these events is Jin Man Kwak -- an unfortunate choice, it would seem, for a group whose message is "We are not the Kwak Group".

The emails give specific venues for some of the events. It is likely, however, they will do what they did in Tokyo -- have participants assemble at a certain meeting point, and then transport them by van to what they believe to be a location that is not known to Unification Church leaders.

True Parents have asked members repeatedly and sincerely not to attend events such as this. During the recent Kwak Group campaign in Japan and Korea, the church leadership worked hard to make certain all members were aware of this request by True Parents. I hope the church in the United States will do the same in the coming week.

The email from the Kwak Group invites people to "hear the other side of the story". This sounds strange when you consider that they have been communicating their "side" over the Internet quite effectively for years. Based on what their audiences were told in Japan and Korea recently, we know they have nothing to say that they have not already said many times.

The Kwak Group is known to be planning an event for August in Korea, where they hope to have a participation of 10,000. Their recent efforts to pull members away from True Parents in Korea and Japan failed miserably, and in Korea they were reduced to filling seats by recruiting and busing in non-Unification Church member senior citizens who had no idea of the nature of the event they were attending. Many got up and left while Hyun Jin Nim was still speaking.

Given the strong defense by Korean and Japanese members against their efforts, the Kwak Group can be expected to try recruiting people from other countries to travel to Korea for the August event. The upcoming U.S. events featuring Jin Man Kwak may be a part of that effort.

TWG (True World Group) employees may be well advised to develop contingency plans for a scenario where they are told, essentially, "Go to Korea in August or be fired".

From True Parents' perspective, the expenditure of any funds originating from their foundation for the events featuring Jin Man Kwak or the August event in Korea will represent a misappropriation of public funds.
