Chung Hwan Kwak had his meeting in Seoul on Friday, May 24, according to reports I have received. Sources I consider reliable tell me it was attended by 30 to 40 paid staff of the various organizations in the Kwak group, plus about 100 others.
Based on statements Kwak made at Hyun Jin Nim's event in Seoul in early May, I was expecting that he might come out strongly against True Parents this time. Instead, those who choreographed the event seem to have continued their existing theme that he is a persecuted and sympathetic figure -- similar to the way John Milton portrays Satan in "Paradise Lost". Apparently, they feel that this seductive strategy is still the wiser choice.
In his prepared remarks, Kwak emphasized that the Kwak Group does not exist. He encouraged members of the audience not to allow themselves to be referred to by this name.
His remarks were followed by a question and answer session that appeared well scripted. For example, Kwak was asked to respond to allegations that he had embezzled public funds. He denied it, and no one in the audience of Kwak Group supporters challenged his denial.
I found it interesting that Kwak found it necessary to assure his own people that he had not taken any public money. It reminded me of the time Richard Nixon went on national television in the U.S. to say: "I am not a crook". He resigned from office less than a year later.
Next up for the Kwak Group are events scheduled for Tokyo on June 2 and 3. People who worked directly with Hyun Jin Nim for a time before returning to True Parents report that he would often boast to them that Japan's CARP and 2nd Generation would welcome him warmly and in large numbers.
I'm certain that he's wrong. If the Kwak Group lets him go ahead with his planned events in Tokyo, I expect he is in for a major reality check.
