Kwak group takes to Seoul streets

Some Kwak group supporters held a street demonstration today near the Dowon Building in Mapo, Seoul, where the Tongil Foundation office is located. I could hear some of what they said from my desk, because they used a megaphone to help amplify their presence and the day was warm enough that we had some of our windows open.

The key message seemed to be that all the problems of the Unification Church today will be solved immediately, if only Kook Jin Nim will step down as chairman of the Tongil Foundation and CEO of the Tongil Group of companies owned by the Foundation.

True Parents issued a declaration on May 25, 2011, saying that all problems will be solved when Hyun Jin Nim and the Kwak family step down from the UCI board, return all assets to True Parents, and return to a position of obedience. I didn't hear any mention of this in today's Kwak group demonstration.

True Father with Kook Jin Nim and Hyung Jin Nim during a recent event. We have a beautiful model in Korea of how God can pour out His blessing where there is unity between Cain and Abel brothers centered on True Parents.

Particularly after True Parents appointed Hyung Jin Nim to the position of International President in 2008, we have seen a beautiful model of how God can pour out His blessing where there is unity between Cain and Abel brothers centered on God and True Parents. The Kwak Group wants Cain-Abel unity, but they leave out God and True Parents. They just want Abel to accept Cain's terms and obey Cain.

This was the first such demonstration that I witnessed in my two-and-a-half-year employment here. For the past couple of years, the Kwak group has focused on online tactics in their attempts to reverse the course of reforms in our church that began in 2005 when True Parents instructed Kook Jin Nim to work for the church in Korea. Apparently, they are losing confidence in their ability to make their case online, and so are moving to offline tactics.

At the end of the demonstration today, I heard the man with the megaphone say a group of them were going to attempt to enter the Dowon Building and come up to our offices so as to confront Foundation employees directly. Fortunately, calmer heads prevailed, and such an attempt did not take place. At least, not this time.
