RE: Monthly Pledge for Africa and the World

May this letter find you all in optimum well-being in your blessed family life!

As we get closer to Foundation Day on Jan 13, 2013 we are filled with anticipation and hope trying to reach our goals. We get overwhelmed with tasks that seem impossible to attain considering our limited abilities and limited resources. Even so, we still feel blessed and fortunate to be given this chance to work for a greater cause that is more valuable than what our forefathers could have done in their lifetimes.

In these few months before D-day for God's substantial Nation on Earth, we face the stark reality that many people are still living in extreme poverty and are dying prematurely without having tasted a substantial heaven in their earthly lives. In fact, we have our very own members who are faithfully following the way of Heaven who found themselves in ironically challenging lives. Some of them met their untimely deaths leaving behind young children who would have to live with void in their hearts and face an uncertain future. How could orphans fully comprehend God's Love without the helping hand of a community?

Recently, we were alarmed with the tragic news about our Philippine sister Alberta Deguil who passed away in Botswana in 2008 and the passing of her husband a few weeks ago leaving behind 5 young children aged 6-17 yrs old. As per latest information, the children are now living with their grandmother who could possibly be already in her 70's/80's and would surely need all the help she can get. On top of this, we also received word about another elder sister, Sonia Soteo who passed away in Cameroon leaving behind 3 children who couldn't be entrusted to their mentally unstable father. The children are now being taken care of by Cameroon's National Leader couple who just have to rely on fundraising efforts for their survival.

These tragic stories created a ground swelling of call for action. We, members and friends of these members took it upon ourselves to create a support system that anyone of us could seek support from where and when needed. This formal call for action is now seeking for those who find it in their hearts to desire that this situation of helplessness will end. We intend to create an association or a foundation upon which members and friends can run to in times of dire need, and to have people who volunteer their resources, abilities and precious time to lend a helping hand before a situation becomes unbearable to any of our members and friends anywhere in the world. Surely, just the knowledge that a support system exists would give additional courage and strength to any one of us to take a step further in advancing God's will, knowing that there is a solid force that backs us up from behind anytime it is called upon.

Brothers and sisters, the time calls for us to determine the future of our brethren. Shall we just leave this world in its present state of "dog eats dog" culture, where the weak is eliminated? Or shall we serve as an extension of our True Parents who will help them substantialize their dream of Heaven on Earth, where all people could live joyful lives as God's divine sons and daughters?

Here in Japan, as part of the mother nation, we're tasked with an extra-heavy financial responsibility and we can't help but live in plain austerity. Thinking of the big monetary value of the Japanese Yen, we can't just spend as we please. A mere 2,000 yen (around 1,000 pesos) could probably be enough to feed a family in Africa for a month. With this in mind, we try to do our best to stretch our budget and save each single penny for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. From this spirit of self-sacrifice came the proposal of "a-coin-a-month-for-Africa and the World".

With deep gratitude, we acknowledge the generosity of our brothers and sisters pledging 5,000 yen/month. And our gratitude to the Filipino brothers and sisters in Japan whom we are counting on to make a pledge of at least 500 yen/month for sisters, and if possible 1,000 yen for brothers. This is going to be a long-term commitment until we see a balancing of economy worldwide, where abundance and prosperity could be seen in every corner of Mother Earth. How many Philippine members do we have here in Japan, 400? Even just at 500 yen/month, we can already raise at least 200,000 yen per month. If managed properly in transparency, which is what we commit no less, that amount will spell the difference between misery and joy in the lives of many of our less fortunate brothers and sisters and their families all over the world.
