Bridgeport International Academy is accepting applications from students for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Housed in a beautiful new facility, the Academy is a college preparatory school that is located adjacent to the University of Bridgeport and is fully accredited by the State of Connecticut and by the prestigious New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The Academy is offering scholarships for outstanding domestic students. To be considered for a full or partial tuition scholarship, a youth must be fluent in English, have an overall Grade Point Average of 3.50 or better for the last two years of school, and either be an American citizen or have a permanent resident card.

BIA is a college preparatory high school committed to a high standard of academic excellence; advancement of cross-cultural, inter-religious understanding; and development of moral character. BIA fulfills its mission by offering a holistic educational experience, emphasizing the study of core academic subjects, oral and written communication skills, character education, community service, technological skills, fine arts, and physical fitness; and by seeking to instill in each student a passion for learning while promoting respect for other people and cultures in a safe, nurturing, and positive educational environment.

The Academy offers a well-rounded college preparatory curriculum for grades 9 through 12 where qualified juniors and seniors may take courses either at University of Bridgeport or Housatonic Community College. This is a dual credit system in which a student may receive credit simultaneously from college and from high school. The Academy has an agreement with the University of Bridgeport that allows students and staff to use the universities facilities, such as the gymnasium, soccer field, recreation center, library, cafeteria, theaters, classrooms, and auditoriums. BIA is a diverse global high school community where minds and hearts meet in academic, creative, and character-building pursuits. Courses required to graduate include four years of English, three years of social studies, three years of mathematics, three years of science, and two years of a foreign language (including Korean and Spanish). Various electives and activities are offered in the fine arts, chorus, and theater. Since 1997, twelve classes consisting of 144 students have graduated from BIA. Recent graduates, as well as the current senior class consisting of 26 students, have been accepted by many different colleges and universities in America.

BIA has an opening for the position of a Registrar/ Admissions Officer, which requires evaluating student applications and learning the Rediker integrated school administrative software system. Anyone interested in applying for the position should send an introductory letter and either a curriculum vitae or a resume to Dr. and Mrs. Spurgin at the address listed below.
