WHAT: Interreligious Rally for Peace and the Family; News Conference
WHEN: June 26
News Conference: 2:30 p.m.
Rally: 3 p.m.
WHERE: Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.
WHO: Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon; 37 National and Local interfaith leaders
The Reverend Sun Myung Moon will unveil his proposal for the construction of a 51-mile-long bridge between Alaska and Siberia that would link America's fortune with that of Russia. The bridge, the most ambitious civil engineering project in history at a cost of more than $200 billion, will help the United States by promoting mutual prosperity with Russia (much of Siberia's natural resources remain untapped, including the potential for tourism), by helping Russia develop a democratic partnership with America, and by promoting international stability and harmony.
To mark the 65th anniversary of the start of the Korean War (June 25, 1950), the Reagan Building event, which is expected to bring together more than 4,000 people, will also feature a special ceremony honoring American veterans of the 1950-53 conflict. During that war, the United States suffered 36,000 battle deaths, watering the Korean Peninsula with American blood and preventing the communist domination of the entire Korean people.
In addition, Rev. Moon will issue a new challenge to America, calling for Christians, Muslims and Jews to overcome their differences, promote interreligious dialogue, encourage interfaith marriage, and work as "Ambassadors for Peace" in the Middle East and the world. Moon says that if the U.S. does not quickly respond, God will choose another nation for His Will. ow is God Time, says Moon, 85. e cannot be satisfied with only spiritual progress. Heaven cannot tolerate religious and ethnic divisions any longer.
"Rev. Moon is hitting on all the spiritual hot buttons of contemporary society, including peace in the Middle East, fighting AIDS, marriage and family, interfaith relations, homosexuality, and what is more, he never pulled his punches." -- Reverend Darryl Gray, United Church, Montreal Canada
"Rev. Moon has been building bridges all his life. African- Americans know of his efforts to bring the races and religions of the world together, and we have worked with him here and in the Middle East as Ambassadors of Peace. It comes natural that he would now launch this visionary appeal to physically unite the world in a project that demands peaceful cooperation." -- Archbishop George Stallings, African American Catholic Congregation (Washington, D.C.)
"Rev. Moon efforts bringing thousands of pilgrims of every faith to Israel in just one year have done more to advance peace than ten years of talking and discussing roadmaps." -- Dr. Eliezer Glaubach, Former City Councilor, City of Jerusalem, Israel
"Through the efforts of Dr. Sun Myung Moon,, I have come to love Jews and Christians as my brothers and sisters. We are now pursuing the realization of the founding spirit of America that respects all races, faiths and ethnicities." -- Imam Haitham Bundakji, Islamic Center of Orange Country, Calif.
