The Rites of Autumn

Hi everyone. School is underway and it is great to be back in business. 21 new students participated in the Student Pledge Affirmation today. We have 109 students here right now, and 59 at the Extension Center. Many of the new students are from Japan, both Japanese and Korean. We are deeply grateful to Rev. Yu and the Japanese church for their support by encouraging these wonderful young students to come to UTS. We also have 4 new second-generation students, three Americans and one Korean. We are committed to offer better and better education and training for our leaders, to increase the impact of True Parents' love and truth worldwide.

International Tongil Moodo Conference

We enjoyed a weeklong conference of Tongil Moodo leaders from around the world at the end of August, capped by Dr. Joon Ho Seuk's presentations. UTS is committed to supporting the spiritual and physical education provided by Tongil Moodo. We are discussing the development of Tongil Moodo as a teaching tool in a for-credit format.

Welcome Back to UTS Concert

UTS presented the folk-rock group, Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams on September 1 to welcome the students and gather the community. The band, led by former Ancestors Joe and Felicia Longo, with Mark "Sharkey" McEwen and Tony Zuzulo, presented a powerful and uplifting evening for us all. In particular the youth of the community enjoyed it. UTS will pursue its commitment to heavenly culture. Bricks and Mortar

Thanks to a grant from HSA of America, we are nearing completion of our second dorm renovation, this time of the South Dorm. We give many thanks to Dr. Yang and all the members in America for their support. Chad Hoover created a great design to build eleven double-occupancy rooms and a meeting area. Students are waiting in the wings to move in.

Continuing Education Kick Start

UTS is developing a Continuing Education program. It has been launched with my course on Church Growth being offered as a 10-week seminar for the New York church leadership at their new Harlem Regional Headquarters. We are grateful to Rev. In Hoi Lee for his partnership with UTS that led to this breakthrough. Through it, church leaders will gain 2 "Continuing Education Units" (CEUs) that are of benefit in the professional world.

We will develop such modules in subjects that YOU are interested in. We will eventually offer half-day to 1-2 day, and multi-week courses, in locations around America and the world, in church leadership, young adult ministry, preaching, counseling, ecumenism, and more. We have interest voiced in Northern California, London, Tokyo and Moscow. If you cannot come to UTS, UTS will come to you!

You Call This Coffee? Yes, I am aware that UTS has never been the home of the finest bean. After careful and sensitive research, I have discovered that the majority of the UTS leadership team does not drink coffee. Okay, okay, we're not up to speed.

We thought that 25 cents a cup would make up for, well, an inferior cup. No more, I say! No More! We will have good brew! We will upgrade! We will turn on the high beams! We will, yes, we will wake up and smell the coffee!

After all, it was on one of True Mother's speaking tours, as I noted the incredible volume of coffee consumed by our soon-to-be HSA President, Michael Jenkins, that I asked him, "How much coffee do you drink in a day?" and he answered, with a smile, "All I can get."

So among a multitude of improvements going on here at UTS, we are taking steps to bring a major supplier on-line, and I mean the General Motors of premium coffee: Starbucks. And we will keep the cost down! Pray for us. Next to accreditation, approval by Starbucks as an official supplier may be the major milestone of my UTS career. I will rest peacefully. That is, if I can get to sleep.

That's it for now. All the best, Tyler Hendricks
