Tegucigalpa, Honduras - On January 21, 2009, a workshop about coordinating volunteer effort for peace and development was held at the headquarters of the Universal Peace Federation in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This participatory workshop was held to prepare the annual operating plan of the nation's network of volunteer organizations linked to the UN. Representatives of 30 organizations were present on this occasion. These organizations promote volunteerism and mobilize volunteers to carry out activities for peace and development, since achieving the Millennium Development Goals will require the ingenuity, solidarity, and creativity of thousands of people doing voluntary service.

The primary initiative for this year in Honduras is the Global Peace Festival.

The Universal Peace Federation will be in charge of the development workshop on peace to be held from July 8-10, themes that will be developed include:

Education for Peace
Human Rights
Media for Peace
Family
Youth Participation
Volunteering for Peace

The Honduran network of organizations is currently developing a proposal on the theme "Volunteer Honduras" that will be submitted to Congress for discussion and approval.
