Rev. Moon and the Nude Dancer
I love "Father Pericopies" (Father stories, for non-UTS grads). They have nourished me through some very dark and doubtful times of my spiritual life. Below are a few of my favorites that folks have shared over the years.
(This was told directly to me by a sister in 40 day workshop.) We were required to fill out a form in 40 day workshop indicating our spiritual parent. The sister I roomed with had trouble deciding exactly who was her spiritual parent. Before the church, she was a nude strip dancer in a "side of the road" dive that any fundraiser is familiar with. One evening Father and Col. Pak came strolling in and ordered sodas. After her performance, Father asked her to come and talk at his table. She obliged.
He then discussed the subject of "perfection." She had been doing a lot of reading of spiritual perfection, life after death, etc and was very intrigued even though a great deal of the conversation was translation through Col. Pak. Father then asked her to come with him that night and said that if she followed him, that within 3 years, she could achieve individual perfection. She said that she did consider it, but was involved with a boyfriend at the time and was unwilling to leave him. As a "thank-you" to Father she showed him a special dance move that she had recently created. Father and Col. Pak left the bar. About two years later, she met and joined the church. One Sunday morning at Belvedere (her first visit) she was sitting in the front row listening to Father's speech. During the first part of the speech he made direct eye contact with her and repeated the dance move, winking his eye. She burst into tears and from that day forward considers Father her spiritual parent.
