Surinam

Surinam is a socialist country with sprawling banana plantations, rice fields and endless plains. The mission in Surinam began in 1975 with the arrival of Richard Van Loon from the United States, Shinichiro Mikuni from Japan and Barbara Joosten Stupple from Germany. Witnessing became brisk, with Albertina Clarke Liesdik, a member of parliament, joining the church in April 1976. The church received formal recognition in June 1980. Today, there are two churches in Surinam, equipped with video facilities for the study of the teachings of the Unification Church.
