Switzerland

Bernhard Meierhofer from Austria made the first, though unsuccessful, attempt to begin missionary work in Switzerland, in Zurich, 1969. The church in Austria then sent Walter Leitner to Geneva on April 12, 1972.

Reverend Moon chose two Holy Grounds in Switzerland on August 13, 1965, during his world tour. The first Holy Ground is located at the United Nations building is and the other is in the Alps, on a peak known as Les Diablerets, meaning "the mountain of the devils."Walter Leitner was then working as a computer expert for UN representatives. He established an individual foundation for the country through a twenty-one day fast.

Karl Ringger joined the church as the first member in 1973. Since then, Switzerland received considerable assistance from members in other countries. Switzerland has also sent missionaries to other countries. Headquarters were established in Versoix in 1977. Later they were moved to Geneva.

By 1980, Switzerland came to have twenty blessed couples. Since then, many new possibilities, together with challenges, have opened up for the church in Switzerland. A more mature atmosphere, created through projects such as CARP, ICF and CAUSA, brought about fundamental change in Swiss society.

The Swiss church is actively participating in many campaigns held in Britain, the United States, Japan and Korea, and in all the activities led by Reverend Moon.
